“The Law of God is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of The Most High is sure, making wise the simple. The statues of the Most High are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of God is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the most High is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of God are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is your servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from my secret faults. Keep your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, O God, My Strength, and My Redeemer.” Psalm 19:7-14
God has set divine and natural laws in place for a reason. Just as we have laws of the land, God has given us laws to protect us. Many believe that the laws of God are useless, no longer relevant or done away with. Yahushua (Jesus) said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished” Matthew 5:17-18. Once all is fulfilled we will be transformed and we will be in perfect harmony with God and all creation. There will be perfect order in the world (The Law of God written in our hearts and minds. Jeremiah 31:33, Hebrews 10:16).
The precepts of God is a guide for operating in this world. God sets laws in place to protect us spiritually and physically. They are for our benefit. Some may argue that they are too strict and would rather live according to their own wisdom. It is important to understand that God’s sight, insight and knowledge is far greater than ours. “There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof is death” Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25. “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel” Proverbs 12:15. “He that refuses instruction despises himself, but whoever listens to correction gains understanding” Proverbs 15:32.
David understood that only God can cleanse us and keep us from error. The commandments of the Lord keep us safe and in the right way. “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your Word” Psalm 119:9. “Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.” Psalm 119:11.
As David said in Psalm 19, God’s precepts warn us and keep us from error and by keeping them we are protected and rewarded. The precepts imparts wisdom and enlightens us. With obeying God and keeping the commandments of God comes great reward. “We will receive from Him whatever we ask because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight” 1 John 3:22. “If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, ask what you wish and it shall be done for you” John 15:7.
We must understand that God’s precepts are for our benefit and they are not oppressive as many would have us believe. “For this is the love for God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome” 1 John 5:3.
Have you been obedient? Do you have the desire to please God and follow the commandments of God?
I encourage you to: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil” Proverbs 3:5-7.
