There are so many distractions in the world, more than ever before. It is considered the Age of Information. There are so man teachings available and millions of self-proclaimed teachers. The information and “knowledge” presented is well packaged and very convincing. It has an appearance of truth, but is it really truth?
It may seem as if everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and abandoning the “old ways” and taking on this new path of enlightenment (It is not new at all, it has been happening for ages). In the midst of all of this I want to encourage you to not be distracted by this rise of different teachings and encourage you to stay focused on God.
Matthew 7:13-14 reads,
“Enter in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be who go in there: Because narrow is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Just because everyone else is following these different teachings does not make the teachings right. Matthew 7:13, states that wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction. On this path, you can believe in whatever your heart desires. You can serve as many gods on this path as you like. You can do whatever you want to do on this path and guess what? You will never be alone for on this path, there are many travelers. (“And many there be who go in there”).
This path is where the crowd is and everyone and everything is accepted. The Scriptures tell us why they enter in at the broad gate; Matthew 7:14 states, BECAUSE narrow is the gate and narrow is the way. The narrow path is a path of righteousness and obedience. It is life of discipline. Most people do not want this life. Most do not want to obey God. Some do not even want a god, they want to be god.
Believers are to enter in at the narrow gate and walk the narrow way for this leads to life and there will only be a few that find and walk this way, unfortunately. Just because there are only a few left walking this path does not make this path wrong. This is the right path and we were informed that only a few would follow this way.
1 Corinthians 3:18-19
“Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.”
One thing I noticed with the rise of self-proclaimed teachers is the level of pride many possess. Pride, as if they know so much and as if they possess all knowledge and wisdom. 1 Corinthians 3:18, warns us firstly to not deceive ourselves. It says if any one seems to be, not is, but seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool so that he or she may become wise. This is an act of humility; one confesses that they do not know as much as God and when we humble ourselves God will impart wisdom to us.
With the increase of information there is a rise of “enlightenment” and an attraction to myths. There are more and more people clinging to Egyptian myths, Greek myths, and etc.
The scripture reads:
2 Timothy 4:3-4
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they draw to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto myths.”
We are urged as believers to:
2 Timothy 2:15-16
“Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain utterances: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”
We are to avoid even the appearance of evil. We are not to even speak on these things as if they are truth. We are warned that it will only increase more ungodliness and carry us further from God. We are to remember that which was imparted to us from the Holy Spirit. We are to call to mind what we have learned, the scriptures, the Truth.
2 Timothy 3:13-14
“But evil men and seducers shall grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But continue in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing of whom you have learned them.”
Most people are not even aware that they are a part of a collective deception. They are deceived themselves while deceiving others.
1 John 4:4-6
“You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.”
I want to encourage you to stay with God. Do not abandon the ways of God or the path of righteousness because everyone else is.
“Thus says the LORD, Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk it.”
Please, sisters and brothers, do not be like them. Decide to walk in the ways of God. God’s way is the best way. Regardless of what the world says, holiness is still right and the “old path” and “old ways” are still relevant.
